TransLink runs an integrated transit system. Your cash fare, DayPass, Monthly Pass or FareSaver ticket can be used on the bus, SeaBus or SkyTrain. If you’re taking West Coast Express, an AddFare will be required.

Remember:
- a single fare (cash or FareSaver ticket) lets you travel for up to 90 minutes, and you can hop on/off and transfer modes
- buses need exact coin fare if paying cash
- Ticket Vending Machines are located at SkyTrain stations and the SeaBus terminals, and accept cash or credit/debit
- after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, and all day Saturday, Sunday and holidays, the system operates as one zone (so one zone fares apply)
- a $5 AddFare is applicable to cash fares for travel departing any station on Sea Island destined for Bridgeport Station or beyond

Fare Zones
There are three fare zones in Metro Vancouver. The number of zone boundaries you cross during your trip will determine your fare. Use our Fare Zone Map to find out how many zones you’ll cross for your next trip. Each zone is a different colour.
Transferring between modes, or crossing a zone boundary and need an AddFare? Visit our Transferring page for more information.
For more information, including common fare zones and which municipalities fall into each zone, visit the Fare Zone Map page of the full TransLink website.
Paying Your Fare
Paying on the Bus
Cash fares require exact coin change and are inserted into the right-hand slot of the farebox. You’ll receive a transfer that can be used on other buses, SeaBus and SkyTrain, and also serves as your proof of payment.
When you pay by FareSaver tickets or transfers, you insert them into the left-hand slot of the farebox with the arrow pointing down and the magnetic strip facing you. The machine will automatically tell you if your transfer is still valid (90 minutes from the time of purchase).
Paying on the SkyTrain
Our touch-screen Ticket Vending Machines accept coins (except pennies) and bills (up to $20), as well as debit/credit cards.
They'll ask you to select how many zones you're traveling through and once you've paid, will dispense a ticket with a paper magnetic strip on the back. These tickets also work in bus fareboxes (transfers) and serve as your proof of payment.
Validating Your Ticket
If you’re using a FareSaver ticket, or a pre-purchased DayPass, you’ll need to validate it before use. This is done either on your first bus or at one of the blue validators next to the ticket vending machines at SkyTrain or SeaBus stations.
Note: DayPasses purchased at ticket vending machines are valid for that day only. You can purchase DayPasses for future use at authorized FareDealer vendors.
For more information, visit the Paying Your Fare page on the full TransLink website.
Transferring
You can transfer between bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus with the same ticket, as long as you remain within the zone(s) that you paid for
- you can travel up to 90 minutes for each single fare or FareSaver ticket in the zone(s) that you paid for
- fare receipts and validated FareSaver tickets also serve as transfers
- single fare passengers should always request a transfer when boarding and keep it as proof of payment
AddFares
If you have bought a one-zone fare but need to travel through two or three zones, you can upgrade your ticket on the bus or at SkyTrain or SeaBus ticket vending machines with a proof of payment transfer.
Canada Line YVR AddFare
The $5 Canada Line YVR AddFare is applicable to travel departing from any of the stations on Sea Island (YVR-Airport, Sea Island Centre and Templeton) destined for Bridgeport Station or points beyond. The Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) at the three Sea Island Stations are programmed to charge the additional YVR AddFare automatically on applicable transactions. (Please note that DayPasses are not available at Sea Island Station TVMs.)
Canada Line customers who buy their fare zone ticket from a TVM using cash, debit or credit card must pay the $5 YVR AddFare. This includes Concession (seniors and student) fares. Children under the age of five can ride transit for free and are not subject to the YVR AddFare.
Exemptions
Customers who use prepaid fares such as DayPasses, Monthly FareCards, FareSaver tickets, West Coast Express weekly and 28-day passes, U-Passes, Employer Passes and Government Bus Passes are exempt from the Canada Line YVR AddFare. If you are at the airport, DayPasses can be purchased at the 7-Eleven or the Pharmasave on Level 1, Arrivals. DayPasses and FareSavers don't have specific dates for travel, so they can be purchased in bulk for future travel dates.
Where to Buy
You can purchase tickets and passes from any authorized FareDealer location such as Mac's, 7-Eleven, Safeway or London Drugs. You can purchase a book of 10 FareSavers, a DayPass and Monthly Passes all of which will save you money. Make sure to look for the FareDealer sign! Availability and form of accepted payment varies by FareDealer location.
Note: FareSavers and DayPasses purchased at FareDealer locations must be validated before use on the day of travel. If you buy them at ticket vending machines, they are valid for use same day. You can’t purchase FareSavers or DayPasses for future travel at ticket vending machines. Visit the Paying Your Fare page for more information.
