TransLink

We continue to salt and sand bus loops and SkyTrain stations, but please use caution in these areas and remember to dress warmly in anticipation of potential delays.

Expect extra crowding on some routes To provide improved traction, many articulated buses may be switched with standard, 40 foot buses. This will mean some modified service, with increased crowding and the possibility of passups in some areas.

HandyDART is currently operating regular service, but is experiencing delays in the Tri-City and Vancouver areas.

Expo and Millennium Lines are running consistently, but with reduced frequency due to the need to have staff on each train to watch for weather-related problems on the tracks. Please be prepared to wait longer on the platform between trains.

Expo Line Escalator Replacement

TransLink is replacing 37 escalators at 13 SkyTrain Stations along the Expo Line and at select West Coast Express stations as part of the TransLink Maintenance and Repair Program. This critical investment into the system will keep escalators operating safely and reliable for customers well into the future.

The escalators were installed at a time when there were significantly lower passenger volumes than today. Expo Line traffic is now four times what it was 30 years ago.

Granville Station will be the first to see improvements, with a total of six escalators being replaced. Construction will start with the three main escalators beginning this spring and continuing for an estimated two years.

Improvements to the other 12 stations are anticipated to begin rolling out in 2019. Details will be available well in advance of the start of construction.

Customers are encouraged to visit our Alerts page for information on service impacts.

Granville Station

What we're doing:

As part of the TransLink Maintenance and Repair Program, six escalators at Granville Station are being replaced. Construction will begin with the three main escalators.

The three main escalators at Granville Station are the longest on the system. Replacing these escalators is a complicated process requiring the new escalators be built piece-by-piece on site.

When: May 26, 2018 to spring 2020

What you need to know:

  • The Seymour Street entrance to Granville Station will be closed from May 26, 2018 to spring 2020. Customers will access the station from the escalators and elevator at the Dunsmuir Street entrance.
  • Customers will still be able to enter from Granville Street, but will be directed to the Dunsmuir entrance via the Hudson Mall pathway.
  • Every effort is being made to keep the station open for customers, but we do expect there to be disruptions.
  • Customers should allow for extra travel time, or consider using Burrard Station or Stadium-Chinatown Station – a five to eight minute walk away.

We thank our passengers for their patience while we complete this important project.
